Posters should be mounted in a visible location accessible to all employees. Employers with remote staff may email or host the notices on an intranet as long as physical posters remain visible at the office. Remote employees should still be notified of their rights, typically via email or an intranet page.

Official agencies often publish posters in English and other languages to serve diverse workforces. The Maine labor agency generally advises that notices should be provided in the language(s) understood by your staff.

Noncompliance could trigger fines and possible lawsuits by workers. Notices must be current; update them whenever minimum wage or other regulations change to remain compliant with changing wage rates, discrimination laws and other statutory updates.

Maine's Video Display Terminal law applies to employers with two or more computers at a single location. It requires employers to establish an education and training program for employees who regularly use video display terminals and to post a VDT rights poster in a prominent location. The poster explains workers' rights and duties, including training provided both orally and in writing (written only if fewer than five terminals are on site), instruction on proper terminal use and protective measures, and a requirement that training be given within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Maine mandates its human trafficking poster only for specific locations: Maine Department of Labor career centers; offices that provide services under the Jobs Initiative Program; hospitals or facilities offering emergency medical services; eating and lodging places; adult entertainment nightclubs, bars or other sexually oriented businesses; and money transmitters, check-cashing businesses and foreign currency exchange businesses.
