Posters should be mounted in a visible location accessible to all employees. Employers with remote staff may email or host the notices on an intranet as long as physical posters remain visible at the office. Remote employees should still be notified of their rights, typically via email or an intranet page.

Official agencies often publish posters in English and other languages to serve diverse workforces. The Hawaii labor agency generally advises that notices should be provided in the language(s) understood by your staff.

Noncompliance could trigger fines and possible lawsuits by workers. Notices must be current; update them whenever minimum wage or other regulations change to remain compliant with changing wage rates, discrimination laws and other statutory updates.

Hawaii law requires certain businesses to display a Human Trafficking notice. This includes establishments with class 5 or class 11 liquor licenses, massage therapy establishments with five or more employees, and employers of erotic or nude massagers or exotic dancers. The notice provides information about a confidential hotline for reporting human trafficking and must be posted conspicuously. Employers can download the notice from the Hawaii Department of Labor’s website. This requirement applies in 2025.

Hawaii’s “Breastfeeding in the Workplace” notice informs employees that they have the right to reasonable break time and a private area (other than a restroom) to express milk for a nursing child for one year after the child’s birth. Employers with fewer than 20 employees may seek an undue?hardship exemption if providing time and space would cause significant difficulty or expense. Employers who fail to post the notice may face penalties and liability for damages. The notice must be displayed in a conspicuous location accessible to employees.
